Epigenetics Drives RAGs to Recombination Riches
V(D)J recombination of antigen receptor gene segments in B and T cells is mediated by the lymphoid-specific proteins RAG1 and RAG2. Now, Ji et al. (2010) demonstrate how RAG1 and RAG2 use DNA sequence specificity and modified histones within chromatin to target specific loci for V(D)J recombination at different stages of lymphoid development.
متن کاملFrom rags to riches: Democratisation of the photographic art
The democratisation of photography has gone hand-in-hand with the advent of the devices used for the ubiquitous production of images speaking to an individual’s engagement with the world. As the various photographic formats have changed over the years, largely aligned with the impact of the medium/cameras used, it’s interesting to note how the different forms of photography; social, constructed...
متن کاملRAGs and regulation of autoantibodies.
Autoreactive antibodies are etiologic agents in a number of autoimmune diseases. Like all other antibodies these antibodies are produced in developing B cells by V(D)J recombination in the bone marrow. Three mechanisms regulate autoreactive B cells: deletion, receptor editing, and anergy. Here we review the prevalence of autoantibodies in the initial antibody repertoire, their regulation by rec...
متن کاملFrom Rags to Riches: on Constant Proportions Investment Strategies
This paper studies the performance of self-financing constant proportions trading strategies, i.e. dynamic asset allocation strategies that keep a fixed constant proportion of wealth invested in each asset in all periods in time. We prove that any self-financing constant proportions strategy yields a strictly positive exponential rate of growth of investor’s wealth in a financial market in whic...
